Recommendations for sugar, for babies, toddlers and children

Scientific research now recommends zero added sugar for babies and toddlers and no more than 3-4 teaspoons for children.

The sad thing is that people aren’t inclined to blame their food for what is happening in their bodies, but it is 100% connected. It’s time to overhaul the lunchbox... 🤕

In a recent study of 451 children aged 8–11 years in Auckland, 71 kids were pre-diabetic. That’s 15% 😳 So, what are some of the symptoms that we may see in our kids?

1. Being overweight, particularly in their tummies

2. Potentially mood swings - especially if they’re hungry

3. Fatigue or lack of concentration

4. Being excessively hungry

This isn’t about fitting into a good pair of jeans anymore, it isn’t about how we look, it’s how we feel. And our kids are getting sick, we are getting sick, and it’s from our food. Food that the supermarkets pitch as healthy... As a nation, it’s really easy to think that people are overweight or unwell because they overeat. It’s simply not true. YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU DON'T KNOW.

Take a look at what is in the foods you are giving your children. Remember, zero added sugar for babies and toddlers and no more than 3-4 teaspoons for children. (Also, ALL sugar alternatives are even worse than sugar.) The liver handles sugar the same as it handles alcohol. This is why children and young people are now getting fatty liver disease. Sugar turns into fat in the liver. Consume your sugar with fibre. This is how nature delivers it, whole fruit.
